Cá d’Oro
Cá dOro Glass is a company that produces pieces in artistic glass, in Poços de Caldas/MG - Brazil, according to the same technical characteristics used on the island of Murano in Venice - Italy. Mario Seguso, born on the island of Murano in 1929, descends from one of the oldest and most famous families of master glassmakers, established since 1292, in Murano and in Brazil since 1954. In 1964, Mario Seguso engraved pieces of crystal found on the market. It was not an easy task to find such pieces with the ideal characteristics required by the rigorous artist's work. Better would be to produce your own glass in your own kiln. So, with two other friends, the brothers Vitorio and Alamiro Ferro, also from a traditional Muranese family, he decided to open his own factory, leasing the only and precarious oven, deactivated, in Poços de Caldas, owned by Aldo Bonora, who had decided not to produce glass.
Then, in February 1965, Cá dOro Glass was inaugurated. Mario Seguso invites his brother-in-law Piero Toso to come from Murano to join the society. The name Cá dOro was chosen in honor of the homonymous palace in Venice, which in free translation means House of Gold.
From the beginning, Cá dOro's production was oriented towards the execution of pieces with the determination of an accurate original design, which began to define Brazilian glass, leaving aside the influences of Murano or any other, producing pieces destined to a differentiated, demanding public that knew how to value artistic glass. A characteristic of Cá dOro that will always be maintained is the totally manual and artisanal work according to the techniques of the ancient glassmakers of Egypt and Phoenicia in the early days of the history of glass.
After a few years, the Ferro brothers decide to return, one to São Paulo, the other to Italy. A few more years and Piero Toso retires. Mario Seguso, who always had his wife Rita by his side in managing the business, now relies on the collaboration of his children, who drive the factory forward in its production, distribution and design of new pieces, following the secular tradition of the Seguso family. .
At the end of the 1990s, Adriano Seguso takes over Cá dOro, establishing a new position in the market, consolidating the brand, renowned for its unique characteristics of tradition, modernity, design and artistic excellence.
Within these new plans, in 2004, Cá dOro undergoes a major renovation, expanding its built area to offer its public more comfort and convenience. The main attraction is a large showcase through which it is possible to follow the work of artisans in an unmissable show. This, added to the quality of its production, makes Cá dOro one of the main tourist attractions in Poços de Caldas.
Currently, Cá dOro Glass has the third generation of the Seguso family in Brazilian lands in its administrative team.
A reference in glass art in Brazil, Cá dOro Glass is often the subject of reports and articles throughout the press, in the main printed and electronic vehicles, thus making this handicraft better known and respected, spreading the name of Poços de Caldas through art.
